Making and prioritizing the list of the various programs I’d need to reinstall as part of my recent system rebuild struck me as a rather interesting exercise—sort of like the question, “What would you save first if your house was on fire?”

What software could you not live without? What would be the first thing you’d install on a new system? (Not counting things like the OS and hardware drivers and such, of course.)
