Clarifications, Compromises, and a Contest

Six Apart has tweaked their licensing scheme for Movable Type and has released a statement to clear up some of the surrounding confusion. The entry-level personal license now accommodates up to five authors and five blogs. They’ve also explained that, for the purposes of their license, multiple blogs that are used together to power a single site only count as a single blog against that allowance.

Personally, I’d like to see them give some thought to making the terms of their free license a bit more flexible. They could use a point system, for example, where instead of being locked at one author and three blogs you had four points to apply towards the number of authors and blogs you wanted. That is, you might want to have three authors working on a single blog, or two authors working on two. Just a thought…

In less controversial news, Six Apart’s running a Movable Type 3.0 plugin contest. With over $20,000 in prizes, it seems like a great way to get developers to build up the base of available plugins for MT 3.0.
